Biography

Elizabeth Renstrom is a Brooklyn-based photographer, editor, and curator. As a photographer, she uses humor as a tool to investigate themes of feminism, the way we use images, and how we craft our identities in relation to pop culture. Her style is defined by its saturation and prop-driven arrangements in both editorial commissions and in her own projects. She has shot extensively for clients like The New Yorker, The New York Times, TIME, Instagram, and Vice among others. No matter what, she isn’t afraid to make photography weird across commercial or fine art. As an editor and curator, Elizabeth has worked in the photo departments of Marie Claire, TIME, Vice, and, most recently, The New Yorker where, as Senior Photo Editor, she commissioned original photography for the weekly magazine.

• Responsible for developing and managing photography for feature stories and photo essays for the print magazine and digital platforms as well as researching, analyzing, producing, editing, and commissioning photography for the print magazine and for newyorker.com
• Collaborated with other departments to develop, create, and produce original multimedia features and team with photographers, photo agencies, galleries, and book publishers to discover and develop photo projects.
• Responsible for obtaining accurate caption and credit information.

• Sole editor of photography across all vice print and online properties.
• Conceived, art directed, and produced photography for covers and features; managed and guided freelancers & interns working on both print and web stories; assigned photographers and creatives; oversaw extensive photography research; enlivened magazine features & cover with video and multimedia content; art directed and produced special packages including the Photo Issue, Fiction Issue & annual Music Issue; scouted new talent and content for print magazine and vice.com; managed budgets & negotiated contracts; pitched and produced stories for web.
